Craig Tolleson, MD

Dr. Tolleson received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, in 2001. He completed his residency in psychiatry through East Tennessee State University’s, John H. Quillen College of Medicine, in 2005. Dr. Tolleson has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, in 1996.

"Medicine is not just fancy machines that take pictures of your internal architecture, hunting for tumors or broken bones and defective organs. It is not chemical tests that tell a doctor what is out of balance and what is as it should be. It is not a 15 minute session in which a patient tells the doctor where it hurts and the doctor hurriedly considers what tests should be run.

Medicine is knowing the whole human being, understanding the processes of life, knowing and feeling the systems of a unique and beautiful orgnism that unifies its complexities of interactions to harmonize them into the concerto of life.

Only recently has medicine become a cold and analytical gauntlet of fancy machines and chemical tests that define disease and propose an algorithmically derived treatment. We have forgotten the centuries of practicing medicine with the hands, the eyes, the ears, and the intuition that comes with taking time to know the patient as a whole and unique individual. There is certainly an important place for the science of medicine, but hopefully not at the cost of the ancient and venerable art of medicine."
